I've been developing the notion that many a boat can be built - much faster and much cheaper - in non-traditional SOF construction. Phil Bolger's Amesbury skiff "Mippet" caught my eye a long time ago as being a perfect candidate for another proof of concept...

I too think that a lot of traditional boats could be converted to SOF for a couple of days?

Gentry,
Very cool.
Bolger did this with someMr.
I was referring to a single lengthwise seat running down the center of the boat.

Bolger made a good living drawing
boats for people who wanted a boat.
Cruising fooling-around boat.

Make sure you use PL Premium should be, 'how long do I plan to have this boat?' If the theme is cheap and semi-disposable the boat indefinately.
These cheapy boats rot out, its always at an unprotected edge.

Hi All,
I'm trying to get hold of a set plans for a Bolger Spartina dinghy. I've written, faxed and written again to PB & Friends but no reply.
I've got a copy of 'Boats with an open mind', 4 articles from 'Messing about in boats' and one from Classic...

ps - you really checked out the Bolger Yahoo....
There is a fairly active community there, and occasionally Suzanne drops in to answer some questions .
I'd recommend signing up to the Bolger Yahoo group.

I've enjoyed having one of the Wooden Boat or Classic Sail calendars in my office, but I wonder if the publishers would consider a small boats calendar? The Small Boats annual magazine is great but I wouldn't mind having something to admire year round...

Last year over on Duckworks someone published a "Bolger Boats" calendar by just asking people to email....
Build, maintain and fantasize about small boats and a little more boat porn reminding us of this certainly wouldn't hurt.

MIK, I'm very interested in your boat. Having built and owned a Bolger Featherwind (a skiff made from 1/4 ply), I hated the oilcanning of the bottom because it was not stiff enough. I've heard no complaints about the GIS in this regard, is this a concern...

I did to keep the span of the ply down to a minimum .
My first boat was a Bolger Featherwind and I've been bitten by the skiff bug since.

I had a dream, and it went something like this:
I wanted a sailboat, and I wanted to go very fast - and I didn't want to hike. And I didn't want to mess with the hassles of a trailer. And I certainly didn't want to spend $3000 - $20,000 and/or a year ...

Oh, that's the boat! Looks great the boat in the water anyway, waded it out to sufficient depth, and into a total dead wind patch.
Nice pontoon Dave.
These are John Summer's designs.

Boat Paint All paints consist of binders or resins, pigments, solvents, and additives. The binder forms the film that sticks to the boat and holds the pigment there. The pigments color the paint, make it opaque and have a good deal to do with UV resistance...
