My company will be paying out a bonus in March which they haven't done historically. I don't expect it to be a lot of money but it is certainly appreciated. My thought is to request that my employer put one 100% of it into my 401k. I am working towards...

It's no different than setting the 401k allocation to 100% of each paycheck .
Something, but provided that your bonus counts as income from your employer, you should be able bonus from my employer.

I'm fortunate enough to be on the fringes of the higher tax band, circa £41k (inclusive of a car allowance which will just come in as cash as I'm not 'using' it). Will a bonus tip me over it, or are bonuses simply taxed separately without affecting tax...

No bonus's are taxable pay in the usual manor, so potentially you could pay 40% tax on any bonus :-( Yeah, I know I'll pay 40% on the bonus - just didnt know if it puts my whole tax band up - ie lose.

Hi everyone,
I am due a bonus of about £6k from work in the next few weeks, and wonder if there is anything I can LEGALLY do to avoid paying full tax on this amount.

Getting it paid on 6 April at least defers the problem, gives you more time to set up pension .
The other way to avoid paying extra tax would be to do 'a Hester' and refuse the bonus .
The tax at 20%.

You don't get charged a penalty if your paid in at least 90% of your tax is withholding his own amounts, then you will need to set aside the normal tax bracket amount that you.
