the Xandros version specific to the Eee PC and the guides I've read so far suggest that Linux

But will require considerable tweaking and additional configuration.
Recommended software:
Eee PC Tray
Quick run down on some of your options:
Eeebuntu - Integrates all of the Eee specific software
taking a look at eeebuntu 3.0 standard, running it live off a USB. I've got Easy Peasy on an SD card

I recently bought myself a ASUS EEE 1000HE and I intend to use it for note-taking and light
that it is too slow booting and the general experience is too heavy in my opinion. Moblin 2: Looks very cool
on a 512MB SD Card. Boots fast and drivers fits ok on eeepc.
