As for Windows....
You should contact Dell regarding the Service Code (which you may need for warranty issues).
Bet is to ask Dell directly, you bought the machine from them and they should be the ones responsible for this sort of thing.

If you try to install it on another machine you be clunked with software and you'll be on... .
The cd will be tied to an OEM of DELL
it should KNOW THE DIFFERENCE FROM THE BIOS ID STRINGS If the CD was used to install on your Dell, that's it.

Would the recommendation be to use the vanilla ESXi ISO from VMware.com or the ESXi ISO from the Dell website please?

They've likely added in some Dell-specific hardware and CIM drivers.
The dell Dell+1, it will have customised drivers on it etc, although with my own, I used the VMware the ISO from Dell.
