So I was talking to an archery teacher and he said that he waxes the bow strings. I have never heard of this before and have never waxed my bow. Is this like some big no-no that will cause my bowstring to break sometime while I am shooting? And how expensive...

For as much heat I put on it with the hair dryer, your bow probablyI wax mine a couple time a year.

You dont need to wax where the....
You will know when it is time to wax your string because you will start to see small hairs on your string.
Just rub it om and smear it up.
Really simple, really cheap.
I wax mine a couple time a year.

That will help (" almost any frame....
Always embed the wire closest to the top bar first .
Always are embedded, the wax won't bow.
If the cross wires are embedded, the wax won't bow.
The hooked wire will stay in better.
Is fine.

The beard started back for the winter in mid October. I've kept it trimmed fairly tight this year but left the moustache with the idea of trying it waxed up. Well today was the first time it seemed long eough for wax and a proper bit of curl at the ends...

The facial hair is pretty wirey so I need a bit stiffer wax - ordered some Firehouse Moustache Wax today into trying various brands....
wax I used this time around was the Pinaud.
Let it growback out and it'll be fine in a few weeks .

Got into bow hunting this year, used a good starter bow but ready to move up. I need something different now, draw length can go down to about 27 or 28 and weight 50-60 (probably won't go higher).

I still think it would be fun and useful to learn basic archery with a traditional bow anyway.
A crossbow is fired more-or-less like a rifle in the field .
That a traditional bow requires more skill and practice to use.
