Couple of questions
First, what is the relationship to the nose angle of a bowl gouge and the depth that it can be used to hollow out a bowl?
Is this true? As the nose angle gets greater it can go deeper. So a 55 degree nose angle can go deeper than lets...

I only have 1/2 inch gouges, a bowl gouge with a regular.
Yes, the bevel angle.
Although, a bowl gouge will certainly remove wood faster than a scraper.
Of the tool, as is the speed at which wood is removed .

I really have to say that the scraper is looking very attractive. I was recently struggling with a very steep sided bowl. I kept playing with bevel angle on my 5/8" Sorby gouge. Improved the situation a bit, but I abandoned the...

I purchased the 1/2" bowl gouge and I'm not sure if I keep the geometry of the way it was shipped to me if this is okay. From what I here I want a fingernail grind, but I"m not sure if the way it was sharpened would count as this.

I made this video to show that there are better and safer alternatives to roughing bowls and spindles than the Roughing gouge.

Is that the bevel angle of a simple ground bowl gouge does influence the angle of bowl sides a steeper bowl gouge at lets say 55 or 60 degrees, I could get that to transition easier.

You really shouldn't use a roughing overhang.
It's simply much safer to use a bowl gouge.
Use a bowl gouge alternative.
Is not that it's not round it's that you shouldn't use a roughing gouge for that purpose.
