Based on what my grandma told me, i think i've found the war records of my great grandfather. According to this website he joined up in 1916. I knew he was at the Somme but wasn't sent to the front because he could drive. However, i didn't know he was...

My understanding is this guy served during the war but wasn't a combat vet .
And World War I disappears from living memory (at least for those who were participants) .
