What does google earn from chrome or microsoft from ie? Or firefox. They all want us to use their browsers but what's the deal? They are all free, no ad revenue etc

I believe Google is in the browser war to help push the capabilities web browsing people to use their browser because by default it drives people to their search engine.
About ad-revenue.

Browser wars Using IE, Chrome or FF?
FF just came out with an update and Chrome has been acting silly at times.
I try to NEVER use IE if I can help it.

So, in the past, wee had IE6 coming on top of Netscape and it generally "winning" the browser war of the 90s/early 2000 for a while.
Now with a new host of browsers, do you think there'll ever be...

I can't figure it out.
Is it because the people making the browsers don't care? Is it because we, as developers already write hack code to get around things that don't work in X and Y browser?

My vote is for Firefox, it's been like about 6/7 years i've started using it. I've tried Chrome, even that's good.
But, firefox has more addons. And i use opera and safari on handhelds.

I updated firefox the other day, and now it crashes all the time. I went to firefox's help section followed all their help instructions, and it didn't help. I turned off no scripts, and anything else i could think of, and still i cant click on a CNN link...
