A bulging disc represents early signs of wear and tear on the spine (not surprising with heavy weight in the annular fibers, which is the pain sensitive part of the disc -- that may or may not be what.

I had a disc repla***ent at c5-c6 and fusion at c7-t1.
In bench or tricep movements? Sorry to burst your bubble and no pun intended but a bulging disc may it but I would stick to machines and not free weights.
