I got a $50 amazon card and plan to buy one of these. I've never played either game and am weary to spend all my money on Skyrim where I could get two games if I get Oblivion.
Please explain the pros and cons of each and contrast their strengths and weaknesses...

Ive never played an Elder Scrolls game before. To be honest i only bought Skyrim on a whim, but ive completely fallen in love with it.

Oblivion V: Skyrim has been confimed and they have also confirmed that they are working on an entirely new engine for the game. The release date was listed at the end of the trailer as November 11, 2011. About 11 months to go.

The level metering of Oblivion was pretty lame.
I'd hope it's open ended like Morrowind was.

Any real solution for the slow /stopped animations for doors, magic and fire in Oblivion for PS3 or XBOX 360? I got the suggestion of defragging the hard drive of my XBOX 360 to solve the issue, but nothing for the PS3. Any ideas?
