My company (non-profit) is looking to buy used servers rather than leasing them from a vendor or buying new ones.
What are a list of checks / test (memcheck, fsck, etc.) we should run on the equipment before purchasing?

I'm replacing three 7 year old servers with one new one. We are a small k-12 independent school, running AD, exchange, a database, and 3 3rd party apps.

Just curious, I'm pretty lucky that I get a fair budget but I'm interested in which makes/models of servers you guys would buy if you had the funds to pick what you like.
I'm also interested in why you'd have that make/model and if you don't get to have...

Maybe a dumb question but

Is eBay a safe place to buy servers from, for example I was thinking of doing a MineCraft server and I saw one for cheap. Do you think that is a wise move?

There's no such thing as a CPU server.
Entry-level servers can things first: Stop calling it a CPU server.
If you need to economize, you should still get server grade hardware.

They still sell the online passes for some.
Also why I never buy EA games anymore.
If they insist on shutting the servers down, then they *should* make the server close to a priority.
They want.
