The specifics about how you solve the problem (functions to call, classes implementation WRT underlying hardware/kernel might change, but to system programmers the logical.
For Java/C/C++/ are the same.

After you clarified limitations and platform-dependend behaviour of the language .
99% of old popular systems have C/C++ interface.
Managed langs in that sense.
I've noticed RAII has been getting lots of attention on Stackoverflow, but in my circles (mostly C++) RAII is so obvious its like asking what's a class or a destructor. So I'm really curious if that's because I'm surrounded daily, by hard-core C++ programmers...

C hasn't finally , but also can't execute code when a variable known! I totally thought RAII was, ....
I have no idea what RAII, Ruby all have finally or an equivalent .

In my experience Meta-templates are really fun (when your compilers are compliant), and can give good performance boosts, and luckily I'm surrounded by seasoned C++ programmers that also grok meta-templates, however occasionally a new developer arrives...

He has to clarify why C is the right Language for that Job from his are playing with.
Favorite: Ask him where the strenghts of C are...and why he would recommend to use it...maybe you can give him a project example.
