My friend gave me an 8ft antenna so id like to use it instead of my... well really cheap, tiny antenna from walmart.

Buy and install a CB whip antenna ball mount.
You can use the whip antenna them.
A 3' or 4' Firestik CB antenna with a permanent mount.

I'm going to be mounting my CB antenna soon. i have an idea of fabricating a mount where the original radio antenna is. i have a 2ft firestik that i'm going to mount there. except for some welding on the fender does anyone think this would be a bad idea...

Would like to see some pics and purchase details for your CB Radio Antenna mounts including how you get the coax cable into the vehicle interior. I've already got the radio and antenna picked out, just need to see some successful antenna mounts.

I used the grommet that the stock antenna cable came out of and soldered or could you use a Wilson 5000 ....
I totally forgot about the Wagongear mod I could fit it through grommets .

I'm needing some help trying to ground my antenna. I'm getting the cb antenna warning on my cobra 29 lx. I've been reading that I may need to scrap some of the paint off where the mount is attached or connect a grounding strap.
Would I need to do both...

A good quality magnet mount CB antenna is an excellent alternative, or you can install a rooftop CB antenna mount and a quick disconnect for the antenna an antenna....
