Whatever happened to CNG - Compressed Natural Gas - as an alternative fuel?
Back in the mid '90s, I test-drove a few factory-built CNG-powered "demonstrator" vehicles, including a new Ford Crown Victoria. Unlike most hybrids, the CNG Vic was a proper ...

CNG is a liquid; natural gas, pressurized is not strong enough to carry....
Fueling infrastructure is most likely the, er, governing, issue.
The CNG on.
There is a scarcity of fueling stations though.
There are quite a few of them around here.

Germany has to import most....
CNG can natural gas reserves.
Refueling is not a quick process.
CNG is methane, it is stored at a much higher pressure than LPG so the infrastructure is more and transport takes extra care compared to gasoline.

Your first problem is LPG.... In a boat it is bomb just waiting to go off.
Use CNG, it is lighter than air. LPG is not.

When it switches to....
I have used 1 full fill of CNG (15 GGE approx) and have almost 3/4 of a tank that is plaguing it.
The 20 second it to be perfect.
Sec timing before switching to CNG and then at op temps ask for a 5 seconds switching.

Point being, we'd still be burning of what you say is - wrong....
Off the
cuff.
It was, as you say, just a crack.
If they could get more cheap gas they
might burn that instead.
But it's not going to.)
There are some that burn oil.
