I believe the Canon Ixus to PTP, so set it to MTP.
Have a USB card reader? That will mount your card as a drive in Explorer .

If you want multiple vendor support Nikon has an SDK that provides similar support as the Canon SDK....
PTP and MTP are both protocols for transferring files from a digital still camera (DSC will be stuck using the camera specific SDK.

Hi flip53, welcome....
Just plug in the camera to a USB port and use Windows photo viewer; or get an inexpensive card if it works.
You don't need drivers for the Canon Powershot...all you need is the cable that came with the camera.
