Just for comparison purposes ....
But after I learned how PEF and other RAW files afaik handle disk space
With DNG, the camera will compress the file so more CPU usage but less disk space usage.
A new camera comes out, it just works.

raw, jpg, or raw+jpg simultaneously
I understand what jpg is.
I understand that raw is more like a negative and gives you more control over processing.
what...

For me to get the most out of the Lightroom 4 beta, it would be a tremendous help to be able to take a file from the Develop module and open it in CS5 as a smart object, preserving the possibility to tweak it subsequently in Camera Raw. It would be nice...

OK, I'm a late convert to digital photography and the D90 is my first RAW-capable camera. Ken Rockwell says that "pros don't use RAW" and so far I've taken his advice to heart and use only JPEGs. I've tweaked the camera's internal processing to get results...

These really are what made, shoot RAW.
My advice is start with JPG, get comfortable with the camera, then try RAW and see how you familiar with latest versions of Adobe Camera Raw and/or Lightroom.
Either.
