So... I buy myself a Tascam stereo digital recorder (similar to Zoom) to listen to myself practice and the first thing I notice is my cane bass drone reed is a little on the buzzy side. I haven't really heard it before and no other players have mentioned...

For strike the chanter reed....
EZ-Drones are easier to setup for easy chanter reeds.
To be played at a steady 28-30 inches of pressure, where as the husk easy reed breaks in at about to acomplish with an easy reed and redwoods.

I still want to plug my Canning drone reeds in and listen, with the poly DN1s having perhaps a slightly more bass dominant sound to my ear.
Ring to it that I personally like alot.
It is done! McCallum AB4 deluxe with blackwood mounts and thistle engraving with a McC2 solo chanter ordered today. Hopefully in my hands in ~6 weeks. Happy days. I'll let you all know progress when I receive (& try to play) them

I have Canning drone reeds which are idiot proof which did you go with.
bass (with Canning tenors) in my vintage non-McC pipes; surprisingly I found the MG tenors ( both replaced.
