Does anyone have any experience between the two options? I'm interested in a comparison. What was the purpose for bringing on the polycarbonate model? Does it make up for something the carbon fiber lacks or is it just a different sound? I'm about to buy...

In my bass drone I found the carbon fiber Canning predictible....
It will be interesting to compare the canning bass, it was always cane (14 years of piping) before that.
bass reed and some really really old ezee tenors.
Selbie drone reeds in D. Naill drones anyone? My current set up is with Kinnaird's but I have a set of Selbie's I have yet to try. Perhaps someone else already has? Cheers Bill

With my '99 Naill chanter, I prefer the blend of cane bass sound much better, IMO, if you tune....
Not a bad sound, and reliable.
Good luck to you.
If it's really bad weather I'll put in the Kinnaird bass.
And Canning high pitch tenors.
Hello all, I would have resurected an older thread form the archives that had started dealing with the same issues, but it seems that's not an option. So here goes : I bought a set of 1990 R.G. Hardie pipes, somehow these are basically brand new and hadn...

You want the top joint of pitches just by moving the tuning ... .
Tuning is not an issue that one for yourself! I'd reverse the bass drone as much as possible.
Anything like that should set the sound well.
bass drone reed for a while.

I have an older (70's??) set of Lawrie pipes that are tuning way too low. At 472 hz with a set of Canning reeds (tuning screw out as far as it goes) and fully in the reed seat the tenors are about an inch and a 1/4 above the projection mount and the bass...

This one is difficult to explain and I'm not sure how to fix it. I have a set of Kintails that I bought new in 1991, the original chanter is in 2 pieces because of a knot in the wood, so I've upgraded to a Gibson poly. The Gibson is balanced out at about...

Start with the worst drone, see if a bit of reaming ... .
Start with the worst drone, see into reaming out the reed seats to allow the reeds to sit deeper in.

Hi All I am beginning the research into my first set of pipes. At this stage I am hoping to narrow things down, but not necessarily lock in a brand. Too early for that. I am looking for a more mellow sound. Not the strong/strident sound of the competing...

Very nice.
The plastic tongue bass sounds better than the carbon tongue on the Cannings.
Mine are set up with Canning drone reeds.
Quite a nice set of pipes.
I'll second the Duncan Soutar post earlier.
I think we can all agree that there is either a) no such thing as perfect tone or b) that if it exists it is not attainable by earthly means. Not to say there aren't some fine tones out there just that your perfect tone and mine are ordinarily not the...

Tenors and EZ drone bass until the new set of Cannings arrive.
Hi guy's I seem to be convinced on a set of DS-3B Soutar pipes. I understand that they have a mellower sound and not as loud as Gibson or others. A solo instrument, which is just what I'm looking for. Has anyone any experience or know of them?

A cane bass is really nice with either EZ's or Canning them! I'm not wild about the drone reeds, as I find them a bit quiet myself (especially the bass), and will probably ....
Be as mellow or as loud as you set them up to be .
