Canning & Preserving Just changing the title and info I'm requesting. Does anyone here practice canning and preserving? I'm reading up on it and looks to be a great alternative to buying your food pre-canned as to eliminate preservatives and what not....

I add extra grain and save a few quarts of wort. Can for future use.
I remember reading this about canning in the Home Brew Digest a LONG time ago.
Wort is not low acid like tomatoes.

I run off all the wort into a wide canning pot, which has a higher boil off rate....
I mean cool it down, rack off what you need now, and bottle the rest just as you would if you with their grains as well.

What a great idea! So you could make a gallon (or two) of wort, rack to mason jars and store in the fridge? Then obviously boil them and proceed with the starter?

I guess if you are already setup for canning then maybe it makes sense.
Easy way would be dme at first cost more time on a starter .
