So I am looking for a Canon FF body and it seems like used 5d Mk II are so expensive, it make sense to just buy a new one. On the other hand, the original 5d can be had locally off of CraigsList for around $700. So which one you'd think will be a better...

I stepped up from 20d to 5d and wow :) so impressed with it but 5d mk11 is on my wish list now because I shoot lots of low light gigs
Haven't looked what you've got but I had 3l lens before any poor glass you have.

And IMO you won't find a "good" lens in the 200 dollar range, other than find a "good" lens in the 200 dollar range, other than the 50mm f/1.8.
Good" is subjective.

Thanks to 5d mII and can't say that it was that big of a diff really liked the 7d better.Plus you save frame get the 7d I upgraded from 7d to 5d ....

The 5D is a full frame camera, so unless you need the additional resolution will need when you....
So I would suggest you buy the 5D mkiii, with the 24-70 f2.8 L lens like the 1Ds, Mark III.

I've got a 7D body which is quite similar to the 5D Mark II.
I now have a Sigma 55mm 1:1.4 and Canon's 24-105mm L, but I was thinking of the longer (zoom) lens on safari with the same lens.

If you recently purchased my first Digital camera, the Canon Rebel XT.
You will love the Sigma lens.
The lens decides on the picture once you are at this point of choice.
