How does one determine that the card a person is entering is a debit card, check card, or credit card?
I am looking at this for web payments in the US only. This is for utility billing.

You can run Debit as Credit - no need for pin number
you can run Credit as Debit your getting confused that when you swipe the card in a store the machine knows which kind of card you've got.

The credit card processors I've used in the past only allowed ASCII in the cardholder name, but you should check with your credit card processor to see what their requirements/restrictions are.

If you want to identify the type of card, you can try to get PCI information, and look for a string.
You can retrieve it using networking tools.
card has a unique ID (the MAC).

I have an array which tells whether a card is in use:

This is a terrible way to pick a random card if I have many used cards:

since if I have only 3-4 unused cards, it'll take forever to find...
