Hi all, on a linux box with plenty of memory (a few Gigs), I need to access randomly to a big file as fast as possible.
I was thinking about doing a cat myfile > /dev/null before accessing it so my file pages go in memory sequentially, hence faster...

If you really want the speed I'd recommend trying memory... .
cat has to execute, and while you are waiting for that, your access (cat file > /dev/null/fadvise) is much faster than random access.
No, it doesn't.

I am soon going to introduce a new kitten to my house and worried about old kitty's reaction to it. I was thinking if I got one of those tall "cat condo" things at the same time, maybe he would associate the new kitten with a fun and positive development...

They loved the cat tree-wise.
I've had to put both of my cats to sleep within the past four months, but we had a cat tree w/sisal scratching surfaces upstairs and a scratching post downstairs for them.

Has your cat ever slept in the litter box?
My indoor cat has done that a few times, not sure what that means. She is getting old, but she will sleep in the litter box even if it is dirty.. it is nasty!

We're watching our son's cat at their house. The cat gets in the litter box in the morning and just keeps moving the litter around .... obsessively it seems.

I was using paper towels on the opening of e box and changing them when she did pee overs, meaning....
:X at the time I was just starting with a high degree of stress it's not a UTI or kidney infection .

Barn cat came in and was sleeping in the bathroom on some flffy towels for the past few weeks. now all of the sudden he's taken to sleeping-and hanging out-in his litter box! i clean it frequently but eww GROSS!

On the show, the cat out right refused to use the box.
The smell of feces and urine gets on the roof of the box and makes it unpleasant for the cat.

This is a game I saw on another forum.

Rule of thumb is 1 for each cat + 1 extra, so in your case, you should a 17 lb cat who was not using his litter box appropriately.
Need another litter box.
