Proper cat collars should have a breakaway latch on them for precisely this reason for my 15 year old cat - with his skinny wee neck he needs a kitten collar(besides he needs to look good see of any cat collar....

I used to home cats with new collars but stopped it as its a little costly..
I use the plastic flea collars on my cat and she has never caught fleas yet! I always have front in are front lined..
