Can anyone advise me on this plaster ceiling thing.
Honestly I feel that the house is much hotter with plaster ceiling.
Also the ceiling is much lower. Some houses lowered it by almost 12" in order to cover up the beam. I think this will make the house...

The topOne simple way would be to just buy some 4' fluorescent light fixtures with cords attached, screw them to the joist and just plug them....
Of ceiling light fixtures can be mounted on the junction box in place of the loose socket.

At the ceiling box? In other words, just two conductors in the ceiling (hot and neutral)?
If you could explain the wires at the ceiling box and the wires at the wall switch, it would help a lot.

In the box is a power line coming in. then a line going to a switch.

A ceiling light please supply disgram I assume its a 2-wire cable (not including ground going but that is personal preference)
at the light, join the light white wire to the white wire and white wires to the light fixture....
