Hot air furnace Hi all Can anyone here tell me which of the 3 hot air furnaces is the most reliable and what would you recommend. The brands that i got proposals on are Carrier, Trane and Rheem/Rudd. If anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it...

But if it was the whole system, I would go with Trane .
Now with that said, either furnace from either), for either one as far as furnace's go.
And breakdowns are not as common(read: compressor failure).
I'm replacing a 20+ yr old gas furnace in a 100 yr old "leaky" house in Portland, Oregon where the avg winter low temps are in the mid 30's, a week or two in the 20's. We also have 2-3 weeks of 90+ degree heat in the summer where cool air would be nice...

If cooling is required a hi-eff gas furnace kWH heating (depending on outdoor temp) Gas furnace costs: constant $0.042 per kWH heating (converted) AND I have a 92% efficient Trane ....
Heating systems given the extra costs with maintenance.

Anyone ever had central air added to a house with forced air heating? I'm thinking I might do that this summer.

There's some slight....
If you have forced air heating, it's pretty straight forward to do.
If I would have known what I know now, would have done it far sooner .
But inefficient furnace, with a 95% efficiency, added central air.
I have been doing Hvac for probably 15 years off and on.. Been helping my buddy that does HVAC everyday for the last 20 years..Got a call 2 days ago that the airconditioner was freezing up..nothing was blowing out her ducts... I figured it was dirty filter...

I've been saying T-Stat for both days we have been there...Spending... .
T-stat is usually the last thing we want to check and it has screwed me over before .
T-stat could just be bad also.
Could be they are welded closed.
Check the fan on contacts in the T-stat.

We did have a whole-house fan that pulled air up through the attic in the duct work that....
Our central air cools both levels just fine we do need a new a coil not and we had the same problems you have.

My brother is going goes right into the CB with a service toggle on the side of the air handler section.tip add a fuse to the TR within the furnace....

furnace...they dont sell us oil...$125 yearly tune up and they have night/weekend emergencies...one.
