I have had good success with Covad Wireless (point to point, not satellite) in the central and east LA to the "central office", which varies depending on the location.

We have three weeks on the West Coast this summer doing Vegas,LA,Hawaii and San Francisco.
We will not have a car in LA and I have been thinking of staying in a central location such as Hollywood so it will be easy to do the tourist stuff...
