I am working on a school project, and I do not want to use chapters, and I want sections to be "the most important" style.
Right now, sections are numbered n.m, where n is the chapter (0), and m is the section, I want it to display just m, or make chapter...

Hard page breaks would probably have to entered manually....
You need to learn and love LaTeX
If you change to the Article class, you can choose "Section" as the top-most level, and "Subsection*" as the next level, to avoid numbering on that sub-level.

For most of my document writing I use iWork Pages (from iWork '09), and it's usually fine for me. I don't miss Microsoft Word, except for one simple feature: the ability to number chapter titles and paragraph headers for easy reference in the contents...

To do a 2 tier ....
I've always used the numbered style, it's a little quirky, especially when it comes to the table of contents, but it does ultimately work.

I managed to find the real chapter 2 as part of the first volume download at Manga Traders.
I renumber things myself, sometimes.
I downloaded a huge number of Manga series from a private FTP.
I will work on fixing this tomorrow.

In my LaTeX document I've got a table of contents that is automatically generated by collecting everything that is of the form \chapter .
However, I've got an acknowledgements chapter before the table of contents and I don't want it to be automatically...

The \begin{document}, and then put \mainmatter right before....
Indeed a chapter without a number that does not appear in the table of contents.
Also create a chapter that has no number and won't show up in the table of contents.
