But if you only have 3 wires need to trace back to see what someone did and to compare to the connections on the starter..
Check yours with an ohmmeter, to see if that is true.

How do you tell whether the relay or the starter is bad? The relay clicks but the starter doesnt move. When you apply hot lead directly to starter it doesnt move either. Im going with starter G . Anyone got a starter for cheap?

Go into the BIOS and see if you can change the controller mode from AHCI to IDE and boot again from the Windows XP CD .
You cannot install XP from within Windows 7.
