So I went to Halfords to today and picked up a Cherry CS air freshener that everyone raves about. It was in a pot with adjustable lid, but was the solid gel rather than pads. Any difference in smell?

Now one is effected by heat changes.
And put it on a radiator in the kitchen, after a few minutes the whole room smelt of cherry.
