Selling a pair of PMC DS001 class D amps.
The faulty one works but makes a crackling noise from time to time. To my ears it's like a typical opamp failure noise.

You really are confused about amplifier classes and transformers.
Class D does not require a transformer, nor do other transistor amps, except in the power supply if the amp runs on AC (or with rail voltages that differ from the supplied DC voltage).
