I have some mouldy oldies as we call 'em. Some reel to reel tapes with mould covering the tape, the white stuff.
Can I spray the tape with bleach or will it ruin it?

Mould is induced by humidity/lack of ventilation, so.
No problems to report.

Buying Head Cleaning Tape Where or where can I find one. Been to Fry's and Best Buy. If possible, would like to visit a store rather than on-line.

I want to make an actual compact casette mix-tape as a gift for someone. I use iTunes to manage all of my music.
So a few questions:
1) If I gather a bunch of songs on a playlist for sides a/b of the tape, how can I ensure that the volume for all songs...

I do backups to a HP Ultrium 2 tape drive (HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448). The drive has a 'Clean' LED that supposedly will light up or blink when the drive needs to be cleaned.

Of the HP tape drives have self-cleaning mechanisms on the drive itself, though I have no experienceHi codeape!
Have you used the tape to restore any data and had any errors? Or is there any software not an answer, but food for thought....

Best to get 91%+ IMHO....I've found 99% a little that the Rubber Renue is probably... .
If it's in ok condition but just needs a little cleaning, some windex might do the trick on pharmacy shelves is 70%, too much water for tape heads.

I use Quantum DLT-S4 tapes (800/1600GB) in my library, which has two Quantum tape heads in it. I have had quite a few bad tapes i.e. tapes that come up "CRC error" or "cannot read tape" etc and the backup software marks them as bad. I've sent back around...

Which would cause symptoms like what you are describing.
The first thing i would suggest is to run a cleaning tape through it at least once - possibly twice it'd bet there is a decent amount of dust on the tape heads.

I love to see idiots use duct tape on bicycle....
Back in 1979 I used duct tape on the Antarctic to warm the duct tape up so that the adhesive would stick to the metal duct work.
I am a retired member of Sheet Metal Workers local 105 .
