The clincher version, at least, is an excellent expensive tires.
I dunno about tubular vs clincher life, but if you care about tyre life, you probably shouldn't be running GP4000's, either as a tubular or a clincher.

I had old tires on a 1911 Hupp once, tried tire irons like you did, no way as mentioned, a hacksaw saw.

In triathlon, I will continue to use clincher/latex but will stick with tubular tires for CX.
