Why axial lighting won't work for photographing slabbed coins, coins in flips, etc. I have a slabbed example of CWT 240/337a graded NGC MS-64.
Here are two directly lighted images.
Perhaps we can eventually get most of the varieties represented in this...

Missie.
Counterfeits, or did counterfeit coins get through PCGS/NGC and were slabbed? Either way, scary.

Good evening, all:
Once again I am reminded that over 45 years of numismatic collecting and study is no guarantee that I can't be stumped. Case in point:

Hello Everyone,
I was wondering, is it silly bringing coins to the great state of Hawaii? And what about slabbed coins?
Thanks everyone,
Jeff

I guess at some lowball price there is.
But generally not in my view.
My view is sight seen is really the only way to go and it doesn't matter if a coin is slabbed by pcgs, ngc, starred, plussed, or cac.
Unless you hire someone who has a great eye for...

The last truly sight unseen coin purchase was the ten 25th anniversary ASE? Then again, they may have images of every coin ever sent in to them, so it is really sight already seen I wouldn't buy from them....

I've never seen a high quality 1943 steel cent so I don't know what it should look like.
This was available for a few dollars and I bought it out of curiosity. Oh, did I mention that it was slabbed and certified as MS67 by National Numismatic Certification...

I have a steel unstruck planchet for a wartime, don't ask me why I bought this coin
....
I notice that you've de-slabbed, snap or sealed in a TPG slab like yours once was.
The obverse looks odd to me, but I'm no expert on steel cents .
