Also....
Before you buy, pay attention to the printer's density, measured in dpi (you'll want at least 300dpi ).
If you're willing to invest in a laser printer (more than $500), it can produce decent prints, and last longer.
Is quite good.

Recently I bought a new black toner Q6000 cartridge for my hp color laser jet printer. It worked fine at first, but now it will only print a page that is solid black. What should I do?

The machine doesn't really "sense" what exact color of ink is inside nothing if you put a different color in ....
Cartridge has a small electronic part that tells the printer which color it is, how fullYes it will print green.

When compared to factory ink (lets say, on my old Epson R200), how reliable is the color reproduction with the typical $50 ebay continuous ink systems? Will the colors fade over time? Primary usage is making prints from an 8mpx DSLR.

Answer Snippets (Read the full thread at superuser):
Is your current equipment color-calibrated....
Color reproduction is subjective to the quality of the ink itself also have a higher tendency to clog up your printer ink heads, resulting in fairly expensive repairs.
Not reliable at all.

That way you will assure that routine print jobs are printed... .
When printing out web pages or quick notes, you don't always need color.
However, I would only by a Laser printer to black & white .
I think you will always pay a lot for ink .

If you don't use the color it can dry out.
Only printing black still "breaks the seal" on the color side which then needs to clean / eject ink to prevent drying out the color jets.
It gets used during the cleaning cycles.
