PhDs and Commuting from London
I'm thinking of applying to Cambridge for my PhD, but I'm having reservations about living in such a small city. I know a lot of people love it (or rather adjust to it), but I like London too much to think of living anywhere...

What PhD are you planning on doing? Obviously if you need to use a lab, training 45 mins+tube/walk each day is pretty infeasible.

London Bridge is much improved in many ways from how I remember it when I commuted everyday but as part of the redevelopment of the station a little too much of the original structure [read: pretty much all of it] is being demolished.

Granted this was about 5 years ago but it wasn't bad in NE and commuted to Xerox in Wilsonville, and my current boss commutes from Lake Oswego to Wilsonville.
