What is the purpose of companies doing a contract to hire position? Why not just do direct hires? Is it protecting them in some way?

Or there isn't a position currently available but you contract to hire in anticipation of a position no obligation to renew their contract.

Really having a hard time. I had a DWI felony back in 2004 .
I have good references and job history but no one will hire me.
workforce and my PO cant help me, trust me Ive been down that road.

I can confirm that Europcar are by far the worst for a hire from Alamo in the USA with no issues.
