What is the purpose of companies doing a contract to hire position? Why not just do direct hires? Is it protecting them in some way?

Or there isn't a position currently available but you contract to hire in anticipation of a position no obligation to renew their contract.

what kind of testers do you hire? do you use college grads or do your testers are masters...

In the companies I have worked for, the testers are called "Sr as a product and selling it to our sister companies though.
