I have a Compaq Presario v6000 that fails to work anymore, the casing and hard drive are shot. I want to know if any parts from it are "standard" enough to work in a budget system.
Also, I realize I can find this out by opening it up... ~_~

If the hard drive is bad, it is good to keep as spares as you may one day need to use the board on a different hard drive... .
If I get a non working laptop, I typically (but not limited to) do the following -
Take out, Hard drive, memory, cpu and the screen .

Besides the work laptop, I just got to keep a Compaq Presario F700 for 3 months after which I need to return it " just like I had got it ".

I have also compaq presario v3500 ...i badly need the drivers.
They make a 3500 series but you will need to post your drivers from Compaq.
Compaq doesn't make a Presario 3500....

From what I've....
The 8200M can also use shared memory so it's not that bad .
For $380 that's definitely a steal.
If you want to play WoW at a decent resolution, you won't be too happy with this one .
The nVidia GeForce 8200M isn't exactly gaming material.
