Wild guess: the noise is loud enough to make some automatic head parking mechanism in your laptop kick in (this is the anti-shock technology which is supposed to protect the drive if the machine is dropped) .
That's not normal.
Hey guys I need some help with my computer. Every now and again my computer lags and at the same time the sound distorts for a few seconds... Any help would be welcome.

(probably worth noting that the CPU in any computer uses far more power than the HDDs.

Maybe you have a 64bit computer with a 32bit java, that causes lag too....
CPU, GPU, Ram, OS, Java Version etc to me but then I got a better connection and it stopped .

For some the answers to those that do have freezes... .
When you reset them, they just come back.
And lags badly for a moment, then issues a dialog saying that some 9000+ objects have been reset at certain community lots that also causes lag.
