Im just in the process of constructing a house and have beEn given the option of two types of construction material for the blockwork.
It's either standard concrete blocks or“ autoclaved aerated concrete”, which type is best?

Before you decide on knocking it down, try something similar to strengthening of column by section on the available concrete cover.
Simply add fire protection over the existing condition - either more concrete, layers of gypsum.

What type of concrete should be used to make a pier? Looking at the local building supply there are quite a few choices to be had. Perhaps there is a thread here that explains this?
