Building a rectangular grape arbor in my backyard and thought Id knock some ideas around about the best way to make vertical 4x4 posts sturdy.
My options, in order of preference, seem to be:

In general, wood should never touch concrete or dirt know if the Simpson Strong-Tie PBS44 ....
But those posts will have problems sooner than if not surface mounted .
In concrete, maybe just the corner posts, for stability.

Can you stack, say 2 rows of 8x16 blocks on top of a concrete collar? Pond would be 42" deep with a collar around it and then add two rows of blocks on top of the collar. This would be a liner pond.

At only 4 inches are placing 1000 sf of concrete 4 inches thick, which is a bit over twelve cubic yards in place yourself, you could get by for less, but not ....
First off, I don't know why you would extend the slab over the concrete block.

The concrete up against the house (and the parking pad) settles back that there wasn't enough crushed stone placed under the concrete pads to allow for drainage.

Upon closer inspection the obverse engraved 'ring' has the world 'DOLLARS' in retrograde over and over. The reverse has a design surrounding what appears to be either a '2' '3' or a '5'
