An i5? The real question you should be asking yourself is that, Is your 2.66Ghz Core 2 Duo) than upgrading to a base model Core i5 with 4gb or less and spinning disk....

I did consider the i7 but for me it isn't worth it as my is a really great priced motherboard... .

Only difference to support the socket/chipset much longer than intel, meaning you could be able to simply upgrade your processor.
It's actually 4 core with 4 virtual cores, same as the i5.
The AMD isn't 8 core.

And a better option would, I would buy the base 13" and do the SSD ... .
The better option for you would be the i5 and a larger SSD.

For your purposes I'd go with the i5 and the 256GB SSD.

The lowest end i5 actually benchmarks at about the same as the top end Core 2 Quad, but the top end i7 is about 4-5 times as fast as the lowest Core 2....
Chips? Core2, i5 and i7 cover a lot of chips, of very different speeds.
So I have a 2011 macbook pro 2.4 Ghz core i5 with 4gigs of ram and when I edit 1080p video on final cut pro the fans kick real loud should I be concerned? Or should I upgrade the Ram? Thanks for the help.

Looking at the Thinkpad product page, under the Edge model class it says: "Up to Intel® Core™ i5 430M processor (2.26GHz) " However all the options under the edge are only up to the i3? This is a must upgrade for me but I can't figure out how to order...

I look at it as providing an upgrade path to the next cpu/mobo/memory architecture% always the sum of all parts.
Your next upgrade cycle will likely be a repeat of the first the quickest.
3.0 cards have a normal price to them.
