I agree--though I'd want to expand that to 'secured communications... .
Love that guy.
And it's one hell of a powerful, great read to boot .
Not off-topic at all; that novel is probably many young people's introduction to many of the concepts and goals discussed here .

Maar zal de smaak van een schrijver die je waardeert ook dezelfde als
die van jou zijn? Nu heb ik Neil Gaiman zeer hoog in het vaandel staan
maar vind een aanbeveling van zo iemand toch moeilijk... .

I think there's a significant difference between a word that's used

Does it help that it's explained in the story, about 20% of the way

So after reading the recent posts in the Blue and MeTa about Cory Doctorow, I've come to wonder if there are any really worthwhile alternatives to BoingBoing out there.
I'm sure that what they post is to be found in more pared-down and specialized blogs...

Hi folks!
Great to meet you all. I'm Major Shake. I have a real name too, but that's irrelevant I think. That said, it's probably easy enough to find out anyway, if you're curious enough.
Other than reading lots, I make electronic music, I dabble in writing...

I'd like to produce a fun AJAX-driven "Reputation Index" taking from Cory Doctorow's book "Down an Out in the Magic Kingdom" where "Whuffie" is a measurement of reputation/currency.
I'd like to allow people to create accounts, login, see other people ...

My personal choice (in your shoes) would be PHP however, for market... .
PHP and/or Rails will certainly handle this just fine, as would ASP.NET, JSP, etc., along with any other major web paradigm/platform/language .
It's six of one, half a dozen of another.
