MIT abandoned its legendary 6.001 (Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs) course and replaced it with 6.00, 6.01 and 6.02 in the new curriculum. They are AFAIK about Python and robots. What is your opinion about the loss of SICP and Scheme...

Go talk with students or the chip itself parallelize code .
But you should take the course you like the most.

Some charts are a tool to help....
Would think they were "overrated", unless they were being pushed as the only documentation a system courses, flow charts are used to help people learn how to think about processes in a structured way.

If you think your just going to be doing this as a hobby....
If you think that you would like to make commercial iPhone apps, AND you think you can make at least $3500 dollars doing this, then I say go for it.
It's probably worth it.
