Not as good as....
To see the margins and straightness etc., an aluminum ruler/edge is light, but for cutting against, the same blades fit into many of the inexpensive angle cutter handles that are used to cut mat boards cutter, lol.

Can anyone recommend an affordable vinyl cutter that works well with heat transfers? The paper seems to be too thin to be cut by a heavy-duty vinyl cutting machine.

I picked up a set of jewelry making pliers at a craft shop. $9.99 for five pliers. Needlenose, curved needlenose, Round tipped, Cutter and duckbill.
Man these are handy, especially the duckbills for bending small tabs. Just be sure to get them with smooth...
