You tend to finally limit the service thresholds.
A DDoS is typically a difficult problem.

There's no setting you canIn practice, at the small scale you simply can't protect from a real DDOS as even ignoring resource to fix some things....
There's not a lot you can do to guard against a real DDoS attack at the server level.

I realize the answer to this question will vary, which is why I'm asking it. If you've suffered a DDoS attack before - how long did it last?

Even if pf is blocking a Denial the traffic it from cron .
You You cannot stop a DDoS with just pf per se.

i kicked someone that i suspected of cheating off a server i have admin rights to, now every game i try to play (on this server or not) this muppet DDoS attacks it, meaning the game is unplayable. I have a private profile, so not sure how he can stalk...

My VPS is under a DDoS attack.
I cannot access RDP and I cannot take it offline.

They are not trying to bruteforce, just trying to stop access to the VPS.

These really only work for low-level attacks, though, and your datacenter or NOC and the attack should....
Otherwise, DDoS-deflate and CSF both have options for attacks.
You might consider enabling mod_qos for such attacks.
