I am unable to copy svcd files (avseq01.mpg) or vcd files (avseq01.dat) to my harddisk on my P3 laptop running Windows 2000 Professional. Each attempt, I recieve an error message "invalid MS-DOS function". These svcd's and vcd's play on my friend's system...

Not true.
According to some people, a dvd drive is required to play svcd' and vcd's.

I tried burning a SVCD onto a DVD today and i made 2 movies fit onto 1 DVD. The first movie played but the second folder on the DVD didn't play so i figure i had to re-encode both again. I burned it as a DVD UDF because an ISO was a 2 gig limit and...

I quit using vcd's about the time I gave up on vhs, but dvd flick should convert the
mpeg1's and author you a dvd without menus Easy way would be to rename the AVSEQ.dat files in the vcd to .mpg files.

It'll play DVD/CD/VCD/SVCD/MP3.
It was not an SVCD, however, so I cannot Consider Apex MD-100 (~$150 from ebay) mobile dvd player.
My RES did play the one VCD I borrowed from a neighbor.

just wanted to inform that there´s a solution for backing up DVDs to CDs and still being playable on hardware dvd player. But its necessary to reduce resolution to 1/4d1 (still dvd compilant though)

That is 3 conversion passes: : it states that one can put a 1100 mb vcd file on one 90 min ( 800 mb cd ) is incorrect: you cannot get more that 800MB on that disc....
