Given a source color of any hue by the system or user, I'd like a simple algorithm I can use to work out a lighter or darker variants of the selected color. Similar to effects used on Windows Live Messenger for styling the user interface.

Color-space of choice (most likely that's RGB)
Lighter colors have a higher L-value, darker a lower (hue, saturation, value) color space.

We have big application on the site and we have few links, which are lets say blue color like the blue links on this site. now i want to make some other links, but with lighter color, obviously i can just do simply by the hex code adding in the css file...

I'm trying to understand why when in week view, the background of Tuesday and Thursday is quite often coloured a darker grey than the rest of the days. Both of these are on the right side of the screen.

Because I haven't applied the naming patch yet, I did find the mix of old colour names and new colours with it's own....
Changes:
- Made black darker.
It is easy to change if any separate colours may still need fixing.

We have similar colours on our facade - we used Surfmist like Shale Grey.
Ideas, but healways likes a facade picture.
