I have been thinking about the whole issue of some hearing folk being attracted to or wanting to date deaf folk. All these threads by hearing people saying they are seeking deaf people to date got me thinking about it. To be honest, it gives me the heebie...

Hey all! I've seen some people around these parts spell the word "deaf" with all uppercase letters. I know the difference between "deaf" and "Deaf", but what does "DEAF" mean? Is there a cultural meaning to it?

Hoh people can be Culturally Deaf - in fact many are, it's actually very common.
That said, I'm sure many Deaf people wouldn't fully accept hearing.

I live in a small town in Wisconsin. I would love to meet some Deaf or Hard of Hearing in my area but don't know the first step in doing that. I am hearing but love practicing and working on my ASL. Any hints?

Just wanted to give an update for those who remember this thread. The child is doing exceptionally well at the school. This student has made some good friends at the school, and other students received this student well. Language and communication abilities...
