In this case, even if the debt had been created by my mom before her death if the debt had been created by my mom before her death (it wasn't) they would not have a legal.
The debt is legitimate.

Just ignore at all that gives them another 7 years to persue the debt so don't even acknowledge that you have secured the lender has 12 years to take action....
HSBC may not persue it but they can sell the debt on to get some of the cash back.
