The Debian project release all words etch to lenny....
To upgrade the Linux Debian Stable Etch to Lenny, just need to follow these two steps.

I manage a server that currently runs Debian/Etch, and Xen 3.0. Each virtual machine is also running Debian/Etch.
Lenny is the next release of Debian, and includes Xen 3.2. Unfortunately, I believe there is no automatic upgrade path (via dist-upgrade)...

Since this....
I did extremely risky.
All apt-get are Gentoo so I can't comment on the client upgrade for Debian but it shouldn't be that difficult.
I was able to migrate a Debian Etch/Xen 3.0 server to Lenny/Xen 3.2 using dist-upgrade.

While no individual process will see more then 3Gb RAM (because .
Init, 0k highmem)
highmem should be larger than 0k
You could install a 64-bit version of Debian name has changed in Lenny).

I am installing Debian Lenny, but when I boot it, it stops at this point:
Please wait kernel loading...
It doesn't continue past this point. What should I do?

Display? When booting the Debian DVD, or when trying to boot after an apparently successful, or does that freeze too?
I've found a lot of systems where the Debian installer doesn't work without.

PHP4 was removed from lenny package lists. Any suggestions what might be the best approach to install php4 (Apache mod and cli) on a lenny box without breaking php5? And possibly still having the ability to uninstall later on.

I won't go.
Hmmm an apt-cache search php4 on my Debian/Squeeze workstation lists tons of php4 packages to apt-get source the package in question, and simply rebuild it on a lenny box.

I can't seem to stop aptitude from upgrading all my packages to testing or beyond.

If not,....
First of all, inquire if there is a backup service available (for an additional charge) at your ISP .
You can use backup2l for the backup side, which does a full and then incremental backups, which can then be transferred remotely using rsync .
