This shouldn't void your warranty on my Dell Latitude....
If you do go with Dell I have and either a SSD or 7200RPM drive and upgrade your laptop yourself.
Based on what they've told me I'm considering a Lenovo as my next laptop.

I see many people having the same issues and referring to their
expensive laptop as a 'paper weight, boat anchor, etc.

Even if it were possible with severe desoldering and hacking, the availability of mobile processors and the extreme chance it ... .
Notebook processors are usually soldered to the board, and non-upgradable .

I need a Dell laptop battery (specifically for an Inspirion E1705) and if possible, I need it now. As in, I don't want to wait and buy it on Dell.com or whatever, I'm willing to drive somewhere and buy it locally.

They're a primarily online business, but being that they're local, they have a "local pickup" option... .
I'm not from the DFW area, so I couldn't say for sure, but in my area, we do have 1 or 2 shops that carry parts for laptops, including batteries.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop, about 18 months old.
The problem is that the power cable keeps on falling out. It's just sitting on a desk, but minor movement can cause it to come out.
From a browse on the internet, it seems to be a reasonably common...

Same happened with the S-video port on my Dell 1525.
I guess that either the laptop power port or the end of the cable have worn and widened.
To talk to Dell about getting it fixed.

For the past couple of weeks, my laptop has had a strange problem where it looks like ctrl-z is pressed, so I usually lose bits of text I just typed. If I press ctrl-shit-z (redo), the text comes back, proving it's really as if ctrl-z was pressed.
